The Fifty Best Rye

We're happy to announce that Charred Oak® Rye took GOLD at The Fifty Best Rye tasting!

"TFB GoldThe Tasting:
The Fifty Best held a “blind” tasting of 19 American rye whiskies with 18 pre-qualified judges. Strict tasting rules were applied. The order of service was established beforehand by lottery. Each of the ryes were poured into fresh glasses from new sealed bottles, and served at slightly above room temperature. Only ice water, neutral unflavored crackers and bar snacks were available to cleanse the palate. The judges tasted through two flights of 7 ryes and one flight of 5 ryes.

The judges wrote down their impressions of each product on score sheets. The scoring was done on a 5-point system, with 5 as the best. Double-Gold, Gold and Silver medals are awarded based on a set range of final point scores received from the judges. The scoring of this tasting was particularly complex since the comprehensive final scores were so close.

The tasting notes which follow are summaries of the judges’ opinions. The states of origin are identified for each brand."

The Spirits International Prestige Awards

RJR Spirits & Yahara Bay Distilleries are proud to announce that our Charred Oak® Bourbon took GOLD at this years Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards in the "Whiskey - Small Batch Bourbon 10 Years & Younger" category.

SIP GoldThe SIP Awards were created to fill the void that is the current state of international spirits competitions. The illusion created by massive advertising budgets, celebrity endorsements and lofty judging is old, tired and susceptible to industry bias.

There is no better group of advisers for a product than real consumers. The SIP Awards are the first to cut to the core of public opinion as a starting point, rather than an afterthought, in branding and product development.

You can view the results at SIP Awards 2012.
